The Story of the Antarctic Huts

The Story of the Antarctic Historic Huts from Captain Scott to Lt. Ernest Shackleton
or
Only Fools and Horses ...

In the celebrated 1996 episode Heroes and Villains of the famous British comedy Only Fools and Horses, the slightly dull Trigger is delighted to win an award for saving the local council money, having used the same broom to sweep the roads for 20 years. On being pressed as to how much road sweeping the broom has done, he states that over this time it has had 17 new heads and 14 new handles. When being asked how could it then possibly be the same broom, he holds up a photograph of himself with his broom and asks 'what more proof do you need?'

It is one of the most popular scenes in modern British comedy. Millions of people laugh out loud at the stupidity of Trigger’s logic. Yet it is the very same logical paradox now being applied in all seriousness to the huts of Shackleton, Scott and the other Antarctic heroic age explorers by the Antarctic Heritage Trust. Yet few are laughing and asking questions ...
